Henry Brothers has completed the \u00a312.4m refurbishment and expansion of the Endoscopy Unit at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust’s (NUH) Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC).<\/p>\n
The project has delivered increased diagnostic capacity and enhanced facilities for patients and clinical teams.<\/p>\n
Funded by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and NHS England, the project has transformed the hospital’s endoscopy provision through the creation of a larger, modernised facility designed to support growing demand for diagnostic services and improve patient pathways.<\/p>\n
The redevelopment includes the addition of a third procedure room, increasing the unit’s capacity to carry out endoscopy procedures while helping to reduce waiting times, particularly for urgent inpatient cases requiring treatment before discharge.<\/p>\n
The upgraded department now includes a dedicated admissions area, preparation rooms, three treatment suites, two recovery bays, a discharge room and enhanced staff facilities, with the design focused on improving patient privacy, dignity and infection control.<\/p>\n

The project was delivered through the Pagabo Major Construction Works Framework, with Henry Brothers leading a multidisciplinary team including CPMG Architects, Keith Simpson Associates, EP Consulting and Meller.<\/p>\n
Beyond increasing clinical capacity, the redevelopment has also created improved facilities to support specialist training and education, reinforcing QMC’s role as a regional centre for endoscopy services and complex procedures referred from hospitals across the East Midlands.<\/p>\n
The Trust intends to seek Joint Advisory Group (JAG) accreditation for the new facility, demonstrating compliance with national standards covering patient safety, privacy, dignity and infection prevention.<\/p>\n
Clinical teams say the investment will support more efficient service delivery while enabling the hospital to undertake increasingly complex procedures.<\/p>\n

It gives us more space, better facilities and greater capacity, which means we can provide care in a more modern environment and improve the experience for people using our services.
