WBR Group has strengthened its trustee consultancy team with the appointment of Roger Howman and Jason Wood, as the business continues to support clients navigating an increasingly complex pensions landscape.

The appointments come amid growing attention from regulators, including The Pensions Regulator and HMRC, around Small Self-Administered Schemes (SSASs), with member trustees facing greater expectations to understand their responsibilities and comply with evolving requirements.

WBR Group, the UK’s largest independent provider of SSAS administration and integrated professional services, said its Trustee Consultancy service aims to provide specialist guidance to help business owners and trustees make informed decisions around pension structures, succession planning and long-term wealth management.

Roger Howman joins the business with more than three decades of experience across the SSAS and SIPP sector. He previously held director roles at Lindley Trustees and IFG Pensions, and most recently worked as a technical manager at SSAS Reviews.

Jason Wood also brings more than 30 years of pensions experience to the role, having worked as an SSAS and SIPP consultant and spent more than six years as a pensions technical specialist with Interactive Investor.

Together, the pair will provide additional support to advisers and SSAS clients as pension legislation continues to evolve, including upcoming changes around inheritance tax charges on unused pension funds.

Martin Tilley, COO of WBR Group said: “We are delighted to welcome Roger and Jason to WBR Group. We believe that the Trustee Consultancy role is a vital part of our comprehensive service, protecting our clients and advisers while providing the critical connection between the client and our administration services.

“Roger and Jason have demonstrated the experience necessary to understand client needs and communicate sometimes complex legislative changes in a clear and expert manner. Their wealth of knowledge in the SSAS sector, along with their wider business acumen, makes them both an excellent addition to our Trustee Consultancy Team.”

Matt Frost, chief operating officer (COO) at total engineering solutions provider RML Group, has been appointed to the Make UK Defence Advisory Board.

As the sector’s dedicated trade association, the member-owned organisation champions the UK’s defence supply chain.

""

Matt Frost

As a member of the Advisory Board, Frost will help to shape the future of UK defence manufacturing. He will contribute to Make UK Defence’s work representing manufacturers across the supply chain, with a particular focus on championing the impact, agility and specialist capabilities that SMEs can bring to the sector.

Frost has held the role of COO at RML Group since 2025, with responsibility over production and operations.

As a former engineering officer in the British Army, he has first-hand experience in the requirements of the sector and will offer his unique insights into the challenges currently facing UK defence.

Frost said: “Make UK Defence acts as the representative voice of the industry, offering a platform for SMEs to be heard, seen and included in national defence conversations. As part of my role on the Advisory Board, I will play a driving role in championing the role of SMEs and the benefits they can offer. After all, while rapid project turnaround and stronger capabilities for new technology test and development are currently under-utilised by the sector, SMEs can help plug this gap by offering levels of agility and flexibility that larger OEMs cannot.

“I’m passionate about ensuring that those businesses are brought into the conversation earlier and more consistently. By giving SMEs a stronger seat at the table, the UK defence sector can unlock a broader base of engineering expertise, accelerate innovation and leverage the specialist capability only smaller businesses can provide.”
