Nottingham-based meal delivery brand MuscleFood has entered administration less than a year after being rescued through a change of ownership.<\/p>\n
Bizcap, a non-bank business lender providing funding solutions to SMEs, lodged the administration application.<\/p>\n
MuscleFood CEO Nick Preston confirmed the administration, describing it as \u201can incredibly difficult time\u201d for employees, suppliers and customers affected by the situation.<\/p>\n
Preston said the business had been working on a debt restructuring project with support from advisers Begbies Traynor, alongside discussions with multiple lenders, in an effort to secure a long-term solution.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe brought Begbies Traynor in at the start of June to support us through a debt restructuring project that fitted with our plans for FY28,\u201d Preston said. \u201cEverything was going fine until one of our current lenders took a different path.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI am devastated. Just when it appeared we were coming through the other side, a series of damaging setbacks over a sustained period of time left the business in a very precarious position.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf anyone looks at what has happened to our Trustpilot reviews since early May, I think there is a clear pattern as to where accountability falls.\u00a0 We had overcome so many challenges, the team have been unbelievable, and we had strong plans for the future.”<\/p>\n
Further details on the impact of the administration on employees, suppliers, customers and the future of the brand have not yet been confirmed.<\/p>\n
The latest accounts highlight the size of the operation behind the brand, with MuscleFood employing 92 people in 2025.<\/p>\n
They also show the business was navigating a challenging period, with turnover falling from \u00a330.7m in the year to 30 June 2024 to \u00a323m in the year to 31 July 2025.<\/p>\n
MuscleFood was rescued in August 2025, when former CEO Preston acquired full ownership of the Nottinghamshire-based business from previous owner GPS Food Group.<\/p>\n
The deal, completed for an undisclosed sum, included a significant financial reset, with much of MuscleFood\u2019s existing debt written off.<\/p>\n
Preston has a long history with MuscleFood, having joined the business in its early years in 2014 and holding senior roles including co-CEO and CEO. During his time at the company, he helped develop a range of products including protein pizzas, zebra steaks and camel milk.<\/p>\n
After leaving the business in September 2024, Preston returned describing the acquisition as the start of a \u201cwhole new chapter\u201d for the brand.<\/p>\n
