Nottingham Building Society has reported underlying profit before tax of \u00a39.6m for the first six months of 2026, while continuing to reshape its lending and savings operations.<\/p>\n
Gross new mortgage lending totalled \u00a3336.8m during the period, down from \u00a3535.1m a year earlier, with total mortgage assets standing at \u00a34.2bn compared with \u00a34.4bn in 2025.<\/p>\n
The society recorded \u00a34.6bn in total savings balances, up from \u00a34.4bn, and paid \u00a372.6m in interest to savers during the six-month period.<\/p>\n
Statutory profit before tax was \u00a36.2m, compared with \u00a38m in the first half of 2025.<\/p>\n
The lender also reported improvements in its financial resilience, with its CET1 ratio rising to 14.3% from 13.5%, while its leverage ratio increased to 5.1%.<\/p>\n

“After two consecutive years of double-digit growth, 2025 represented a year of deliberate consolidation, and that disciplined approach continues to shape our strategy in 2026. Against a complex backdrop of inflationary pressures, geopolitical instability, and ongoing competition across mortgage and savings markets, we have remained focused on delivering for members while advancing the Society\u2019s long-term transformation.<\/p>\n
“During the first half of the year, we continued to embed our strategy as a modern, specialist residential lender, investing in our core banking and technology foundations, strengthening our intermediary proposition, and taking a disciplined approach to lending growth. We also delivered strong outcomes for savers, and another positive ISA season, while continuing to advocate for the role mutuals can play in supporting financial resilience and access to home ownership.<\/p>\n
“We have continued to build our brand presence, bring our community partnerships to life, and invest in the talent and capabilities across the Society, including enhancements to our colleague reward package. Looking ahead, our focus for the second half of 2026 is to scale lending for Extra Ordinary Borrowers, continue evolving our product and proposition offer, and publish our proprietary research that helps shape future product, proposition, and policy thinking within the underserved market.<\/p>\n

The society said it will continue focusing on lending to underserved borrowers, developing its product range and investing in its technology infrastructure during the second half of the year.<\/p>\n
