A duo has joined the Legionella team at thriving Northamptonshire health and safety consultancy Acorn Safety Services, which has grown at an exponential rate this year so far.

With eight new starters in seven months, Acorn Safety Services, which provides health and safety services to businesses, charities and organisations across the UK, has expanded organically over the past two years to meet customer demand, tripling the workforce in that time from seven people to 21.

The latest two to join the fold are Mat Gunn as a legionella consultant and Krzysztof Grawas as a trainee legionella consultant.

The duo boost Legionella Manager Kyle Glaser’s team, helping customers manage their water systems to ensure they remain safe, compliant, and up to date with current health and safety legislation.

This involves carrying out water hygiene and Legionella control services, including monitoring and maintaining water systems, carrying out Legionella Risk Assessments, water sampling, planned preventative maintenance (PPM) work such as temperature monitoring, identifying potential risks, and supporting customers with practical advice to help them meet their legal responsibilities and maintain safe environments.

Gunn, who has been in the water hygiene industry since 2013, said: “Over the years, I’ve gained valuable experience that has helped shape my approach to the role. I always say, ‘Every day is a school day,’ because there’s always something new to learn. We’re not there to find fault; we’re there to support our clients and ensure they meet the required standards.”

Before Krzysztof joined Acorn Safety, he was duty manager at a leisure centre, gaining valuable water system experience which has created a strong foundation for the new role.

He said: “My previous experience with water systems has made the transition into Legionella consultancy much smoother, and everyone at Acorn Safety has been incredibly welcoming and supportive. It’s been a great opportunity to expand my knowledge and develop new skills.

“I’m really enjoying the variety of the work, as every day brings new challenges and different customer sites. The team has been fantastic – everyone is friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help. I also appreciate the opportunities for personal and professional development.

“I’m really enjoying the atmosphere within the team. From my very first conversation with Kyle, through to my interview with Zeynep, I got the impression that Acorn Safety is more than just a workplace—it feels like a family. Since joining, that first impression has only been reinforced.

“We have a close-knit team, and with the experience and knowledge I’ve built up over the years, I enjoy supporting some of the less experienced members.”

Zeynep Guzelkasap, operations director said: “Mat and Krzysztof have both been valuable additions to the Legionella team, which has been strengthened greatly in the last year. Their experience and knowledge has meant they’ve been able to get stuck in from the get-go, which has been a massive help to us. We are delighted to have Mat and Krzysztof on board and no doubt will watch them flourish going forward.”

Aon plc, a global professional services firm, has strengthened its presence in the Midlands through a series of senior appointments and promotions.

""

Darrell Burgess, Valentine Verrijken, Siobhan Lloyd and Chris Barley

Chris Barley, currently head of office for Commercial Risk at Aon in Birmingham, has assumed responsibility for both the Birmingham and Leicester offices, providing strategic leadership across the two established locations.

His appointment enables greater sharing of expertise, knowledge and best practice while maintaining dedicated local teams to serve clients.

The announcement follows the recent appointments of Siobhan Lloyd as business development manager in Leicester, and Valentine Verrijken as client manager.

Daryl Burgess has been promoted to client management director, further strengthening the Leicester office’s leadership team and client service capability.

Together, the appointments create additional opportunities for colleagues across Birmingham and Leicester to collaborate, share specialist expertise and support clients with access to a broader range of experience wherever it adds value.

Barley said: “The Midlands is an incredibly important region for Aon, and we’re committed to continuing to invest in both Birmingham and Leicester. Both offices have established, highly experienced teams with strong local relationships. By bringing them closer together, we’re creating more opportunities for colleagues to deliver an even broader range of capabilities for our clients, while ensuring each office retains its local focus and identity.

“This is about building on the strengths that already exist in both locations. Leicester has an excellent team, and these appointments demonstrate our continued ambition as we continue to develop our presence across the wider Midlands.”

Lloyd said: “I am excited to have joined Aon at such an important time for the business across the Midlands and have already made many valuable connections in Leicester and the surrounding area.

“I am also pleased to have the opportunity to once again work with Mitch Kotecha who recently joined as business development manager in Birmingham, and who I had the pleasure of working with earlier in my career.”
