Shepshed Dynamo has brought a historic business connection back to the club, with Charterhouse Holdings executive chairman Luke Clayton appointed as its new chairman.

Clayton takes over from Mick Sloan, who has held the role since 2012 and will remain involved with the club in a voluntary capacity during training and match days.

The appointment renews links between the club and the Clayton family. Luke’s father, Maurice Clayton, who founded Derby-based Charterhouse Holdings, supported Shepshed Dynamo during a successful period in the 1970s and 1980s.

Charterhouse Holdings will also become the club’s main shirt sponsor for the forthcoming season.

Shepshed Dynamo, which plays in the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands, is looking to build its commercial and community activity under the new leadership.

One immediate focus will be increasing engagement with local businesses and growing average home attendances from around 250 supporters towards 500. The Dovecote Stadium, which remains owned by the Clayton family, has capacity for 2,500.

“It’s an exciting time for everyone at the Shepshed Dyanmo,” said Luke Clayton. “We want to help build an even stronger, self-sustaining pillar of the community.

“Charterhouse Holdings and Shepshed Dynamo both share deep local roots. By aligning the two, we aim to bring fresh energy, boost local funding, and make this club a true centre of gravity for the 15,000 people of Shepshed.

“The club has an incredible history and heritage, and this isn’t about coming in and making grand promises. It’s about helping create opportunities, supporting volunteers, attracting investment and ensuring the club continues to thrive for generations to come.”

The club was originally formed as Shepshed Albion in the late 19th Century and has since developed into an established part of the local sporting community.

Charterhouse Holdings was founded in 1970 and operates across garment manufacturing and personalisation, with brands including Xpres, Kustom Kit, Vanilla and Adkins.

Sloan said the change in leadership could help the club build on its current position and pursue ambitions of moving up the English football pyramid.

“After 14 years as chairman, I believe it’s the right time to stand aside and let someone else take the reins,” he said. “As a collective, we’ve got ourselves in a position to challenge for the next level and by making the change I think we can achieve that.

“Luke’s appointment is historic for the club and renews our heritage relationship and operational ties with Charterhouse. We all have the same ambitions to move the club forward and, with Charterhouse now as main shirt sponsor as well, we’re excited to see what the new season brings.

“I’d like to thank all the volunteers who have worked alongside me, my wife for being there through the good times and the bad, and for everyone who’s supported me in my time as chairman.”
