Customer data belonging to 8.7 million people has been stolen in a cyber attack affecting East Midlands Airport and two other major UK airports.<\/p>\n
Manchester Airports Group (MAG) confirmed on Thursday that an unauthorised third party had obtained customer information relating to East Midlands, Manchester and Stansted airports.<\/p>\n
The stolen data includes email addresses, telephone numbers, vehicle registrations and postcodes.<\/p>\n
Information connected with car park, airport lounge and Fast Track bookings was accessed, alongside details provided by customers signing up to airport WiFi services.<\/p>\n
MAG said the affected systems did not contain customers’ bank or payment details and stressed that passenger safety and aviation security had not been compromised.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for MAG said: “Manchester Airports Group has been subject to a cyber security incident by an unauthorised third party.<\/p>\n
“A quantity of customer data has been obtained that relates to car park, lounge and Fast Track bookings and in-airport WIFI sign-ups at Manchester, Stansted and East Midlands airports.<\/p>\n
“We immediately contained the risk and have been working with specialist advisors and taking appropriate steps to protect our customers and systems.<\/p>\n
“We have informed and are working with the relevant authorities.<\/p>\n
“At no point has passenger safety or aviation security been compromised.”<\/p>\n
Airport operations have not been disrupted by the attack, while customer parking services are continuing as normal.<\/p>\n
