East Midlands Airport handled more than 1.08 million passengers during July and August, marking an increase on last summer as demand for overseas travel remained strong.<\/p>\n
Passenger numbers in August alone reached just over 552,000, up almost 20,000 on the same month last year and representing a 4% increase.<\/p>\n
Steve Griffiths, managing director of East Midlands Airport said: \u201cWe have enjoyed another bumper summer bigger than the last, with our teams devoted as ever to ensuring people can enjoy getting away on holiday safely and easily. Feedback from customers shows high levels of satisfaction, which we hope has been helped by the significant investment we\u2019ve carried out to a wide range of facilities to improve the customer experience.<\/p>\n
The increase across the two peak summer months was equivalent to around 180 additional full aircraft compared with 2025.<\/p>\n
East Midlands Airport offers flights to around 70 destinations, with Ryanair, Jet2 and TUI among its main airline partners. New routes introduced this summer included Agadir, Costa de Almeria, Preveza, Thessaloniki, Chania, Pula, Split and Sharm el Sheikh.<\/p>\n
Loganair also launched a daily service to Jersey.<\/p>\n
The airport is now preparing for the winter season, with Jet2 adding Gdansk to its Christmas market programme alongside Berlin, Budapest, Krakow, Prague and Vienna.<\/p>\n
Next summer, the airline is also due to add Paris, Tunisia, Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh to its network from East Midlands.<\/p>\n
Passenger facilities have also been upgraded, with new shops, restaurants and bars joining an expanded Escape Lounge, alongside improved toilets and Wi-Fi, additional seating and a new children’s play area.<\/p>\n
A quiet room and sensory pod have also been introduced as part of the airport\u2019s assisted travel service.<\/p>\n
The airport has also introduced a self-service option for its Meet & Greet parking, allowing passengers to deposit and collect vehicle keys more quickly.<\/p>\n
