East Midlands Airport recorded its strongest monthly passenger growth of the year in September, handling more than 483,000 travellers as demand for flights continued to increase.<\/p>\n
Passenger numbers rose by almost 8% year on year, representing an additional 35,000 people compared with September 2025.<\/p>\n
The figures take the airport\u2019s passenger total since the start of the summer season in April to 2.85 million, up 103,000, or 4%, on the same period last year.<\/p>\n
Growth was largely driven by additional airline capacity. Ryanair added around 30,000 seats compared with September last year, particularly on routes serving Spain, France and Italy. Jet2 provided a further 5,000 seats, with increased demand across four routes to Turkey.<\/p>\n
Steve Griffiths, managing director of East Midlands Airport said: \u201cWe\u2019re pleased that we\u2019re attracting increasing numbers of people to choose East Midlands as the best and easiest starting point for their holidays. It\u2019s particularly encouraging to see the biggest monthly growth this year delivered after another busy period over the school summer holidays.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s great to see some of our well-established routes to Spain, Italy and France continuing to perform well outside the summer peak, along with more people choosing to fly to Antalya, Dalaman, Bodrum and Izmir in Turkey.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur teams work hard to make sure our customers have a good experience, which reflects in the growing numbers and the high customer satisfaction scores we achieve. After another great summer, we\u2019re focused on the quieter winter months when we still offer a wide range of destinations to choose from.\u201d<\/p>\n
The passenger growth follows a series of operational developments at the airport, which was recently named Airport of the Year at the National Transport Awards.<\/p>\n
Judges recognised its customer satisfaction performance, investment in passenger facilities, cargo operations and accessibility measures, alongside initiatives to connect local people with employment opportunities and engage with neighbouring communities.<\/p>\n
The airport also recently became the first in the UK to introduce contactless e-gates, designed to improve the arrival process for passengers.<\/p>\n
The latest figures come as the airport enters the winter season, with its airline partners continuing to offer services to a range of European and international destinations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
