An 18-year-old entrepreneur from Northamptonshire has secured multiple investment offers after presenting his gift card marketplace to the Dragons on BBC One’s Dragons’ Den.

Caleb Slater, founder of Cards2Cash, entered the Den seeking £50,000 in return for a 10% stake in the business, which allows people to sell unwanted gift cards for cash and buy others at a discount.

The episode saw Slater face questions from investors Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden, Steven Bartlett and Touker Suleyman, alongside guest Dragon Gary Neville. Discussions focused on the company’s margins, growth prospects and the wider market for gift card resale.

Two investment proposals emerged from the pitch. Steven Bartlett offered £50,000 for a 33% shareholding, alongside the opportunity for Slater to leave his employment and work from Bartlett’s London-based incubator. Touker Suleyman and Gary Neville jointly offered the same investment amount for a 30% stake.

Slater opted to accept Bartlett’s proposal.

Slater said: “It felt a bit surreal, to be honest. I can’t quite believe it at the moment. I’m honestly thrilled.”

Slater established Cards2Cash as a teenager and developed the business while working in IT. He has recently decided to concentrate fully on building his own businesses.

The platform operates a marketplace connecting people with unwanted gift cards to buyers looking for discounted vouchers. It currently serves customers across the UK and Ireland, with the business aiming to make gift card resale more accessible.

Slater said the idea came from recognising an existing consumer behaviour and identifying an opportunity to provide a straightforward way for people to trade gift cards.

He said: “Going into the Den was something I had thought about for a long time, but nothing really prepares you for actually standing there in front of the Dragons.

“I started Cards2Cash when I was young because I could see an opportunity in something that people were already doing, but there was no easy place to do it. Seeing how far the business has come since then is something I’m incredibly proud of.

“The experience has given Cards2Cash a huge amount of exposure, and now the real work starts. We’ve got a massive opportunity in front of us and I’m excited about what we can build from here.”

The television appearance comes as Cards2Cash continues to develop its customer base, technology and operations. The company expects the increased visibility from the programme to help it reach more consumers and support its next phase of growth.
