More than \u00a366m is being invested in regeneration, housing and business growth across the East Midlands, under plans led by mayor Claire Ward.<\/p>\n
The East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) is allocating more than \u00a343m to economic growth projects and a further \u00a323m to help unlock new homes.<\/p>\n
The funding will support brownfield redevelopment, town centre regeneration, business parks and employment sites, alongside schemes intended to create jobs and attract new industries.<\/p>\n
The investment forms part of \u00a3320.83m committed by EMCCA across 25 funding programmes covering skills, transport, housing, economic growth, community development and the environment.<\/p>\n
Ward said: \u201cWe need more homes people can afford, good jobs and opportunities for local businesses to grow. Our investment is helping bring forward the sites and projects that can make a real difference to communities across the East Midlands.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery place has its own needs and ambitions. In some areas, that means bringing former industrial sites back into use or giving town centres a new lease of life. In others, it means preparing sites for new homes or creating space for businesses to expand. I want to make sure investment reaches communities across our region and supports the things that matter to local people.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s some really good work happening across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. I want to see that work translate into more homes, new jobs and better opportunities for people and businesses, in our towns and cities and in our rural communities too.\u201d<\/p>\n
Almost \u00a310m of the housing allocation comes from the Brownfield Housing Fund, which pays for work needed to prepare previously developed land for housing, including sites that are difficult or expensive to develop.<\/p>\n
Projects receiving support include schemes in Chesterfield, Mansfield, Newark, Warsop and Nottingham.<\/p>\n
A further \u00a311.4m from the investment fund will support housing development, including enabling works at sites in Derby city centre and Nottingham\u2019s Broad Marsh regeneration scheme.<\/p>\n
Other projects include Newark Castle, Stapleford Pencil Works and Ashbourne Reborn.<\/p>\n
Business and employment sites benefiting from investment include Infinity Park Derby, Ashfield Automation Park and the Derbyshire Rail Industry Innovation Vehicle (DRIIVe), near Staveley.<\/p>\n
The projects sit within six growth areas identified in EMCCA\u2019s corporate plan, covering urban centres, former mining and industrial communities, rural areas and locations with potential to develop clean energy industries.<\/p>\n
The authority\u2019s first consolidated delivery report, approved by its board on Monday 12 October, sets out progress across 248 projects in its investment pipeline, with a combined value of \u00a3370.2m.<\/p>\n
Of these, 187 schemes have been approved, contracted and moved into delivery, representing \u00a3320.8m in committed EMCCA investment. A further 32 projects are in the later stages of assurance and are expected to move into delivery in the coming months.<\/p>\n
EMCCA said it plans to improve its performance reporting so future updates provide a clearer picture of what projects have delivered against expected outcomes, including new homes, jobs and commercial space.<\/p>\n
The authority is also developing an interactive online map showing where funded projects are taking place across the East Midlands.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
