Nottingham City Council is set to approve a \u00a32.082m overhaul of Harvey Hadden Stadium as it looks to secure the future of the city\u2019s only full athletics stadium.<\/p>\n
The investment, which will go before the council\u2019s executive board on Tuesday, October 20, would fund the replacement of both the outdoor and indoor athletics tracks alongside a series of infrastructure improvements.<\/p>\n
Plans also include repairs to the grandstand, drainage improvements, upgraded lighting and CCTV, electrical works and replacement athletics equipment.<\/p>\n
The council says recent surveys have identified significant deterioration at the stadium, with investment required to keep the facility safe and operational.<\/p>\n
As part of the project, spectator capacity would be reduced to no more than 499 seats in a move designed to cut future compliance and maintenance requirements.<\/p>\n
Harvey Hadden is Nottingham\u2019s only competition-standard athletics facility and is used for school sport, grassroots participation, club training and athletics events.<\/p>\n
Almost 13,800 people used the facility during 2025, with users including schools, universities, community groups and Notts Athletic Club.<\/p>\n
Councillor Sam Lux, executive member for environment and sustainability at Nottingham City Council, said: \u201cHarvey Hadden Stadium is a pillar of Nottingham\u2019s sporting heritage. It has nurtured many star athletes over the years and is still absolutely an essential facility to our communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow Nottingham City Council is in a strong financial position supported by an increase in funding from the Government, we are finally able to make the investments it deserves.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn spending over \u00a32m on upgrading the track and stadium we are making sure local athletes, schools, clubs and residents continue to have access to high-quality athletics facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n
Harvey Hadden Stadium opened in 1960\/61 using money bequeathed by Harvey Hadden and is held under charitable trust arrangements for public sport and recreation.<\/p>\n
The council has responsibility for maintaining the facility for use by Nottingham residents and visitors.<\/p>\n
If the \u00a32.082m investment is approved, the project will move into detailed design and procurement before construction work begins.<\/p>\n
