BDO has promoted 158 people across its Midlands operations as part of a nationwide round of more than 2,200 promotions.

The accountancy and business advisory firm has promoted 126 people in Birmingham and 32 in Nottingham, including Chris Saxby to audit partner.

Saxby joined BDO in 2013 and works with owner-managed, private equity-backed and listed businesses, particularly across the manufacturing and consumer sectors.

The promotions took effect on November 1 and include 29 new partners nationally across audit, tax, consulting, risk and outsourcing and deals.

BDO has also appointed Michael Wong as forensic and valuations services partner and Ben Connor as risk advisory partner in the Midlands.

Gareth Singleton, regional managing partner at BDO in the Midlands, said: “As we continue to grow as a firm, we remain committed to helping people succeed within an inclusive and supportive environment.

“The latest round of promotions reflect that focus and I want to congratulate each and every individual on their achievements this year.”

Alasdair Avila-Thorne, Louis Jones, Aimee Hudson-Brown

Meanwhile, development consultancy Marrons has made four promotions across its planning and heritage teams following a 35% increase in revenue to £13.1m in 2025/26.

Nottingham-based chartered town planner Ben Ward has been promoted to partner, while Birmingham-based Alasdair Avila-Thorne becomes planning director.

Louis Jones, based in Stratford-upon-Avon, has been promoted to senior planner and Nottingham-based Aimee Hudson-Brown becomes heritage planner.

Brian Mullin, partner and head of Marrons, said: “These promotions reflect the strength of our planning and heritage teams and the expertise we are continuing to build as the business grows.

“We’re seeing growing demand from clients looking for clear, commercially grounded planning advice, and investing in our people is central to meeting that demand as we expand our reach across the country.”

Maisie Taylor

Elsewhere, Leicestershire-based The Habitat Bank has appointed Maisie Taylor as biodiversity coordinator as it looks to expand its network of biodiversity net gain sites.

Taylor, who has a degree in wildlife, ecology and conservation from the University of Suffolk, will support habitat delivery and management as well as GIS mapping.

The Habitat Bank now has a portfolio covering more than 800 acres and recently added a site at Cossall in Nottinghamshire, while its Ab Kettleby site in Leicestershire has become its fifth to join the National Register.

The company is targeting a doubling of its live bank sites by the beginning of 2027 and expects all 18 of its sites to be on the National Register by the middle of next year.

Simon Kirk, operations manager at The Habitat Bank, said: “With more sites coming forward, the timing was right to bring Maisie on board to focus on habitat delivery and management, and she’s already proving to be a great support to landowners.”
