Chattertons Legal Services has increased turnover and profits while paying a multimillion-pound dividend to its parent company.<\/p>\n
The Lincolnshire-based law firm reported turnover of \u00a316.56m for the year to April 30, 2026, up from \u00a314.1m the previous year, an increase of 17.4%.<\/p>\n
Pre-tax profits rose from \u00a33.8m to \u00a35.08m, an increase of approximately 33.6%, while profits after tax climbed from \u00a32.94m to \u00a33.79m.<\/p>\n
The company paid a \u00a32.5m dividend to its parent company, Chattertons Group Limited, matching the distribution made in the previous financial year.<\/p>\n
Chattertons operates 11 offices across the East Midlands and London, providing legal services to private individuals and businesses.<\/p>\n
Its latest accounts show that gross profit increased from \u00a37.71m to \u00a39.71m, while the gross profit margin improved from 54.7% to 58.6%.<\/p>\n
The firm’s trading profit margin also increased from 27.7% to 30.7%.<\/p>\n
However, administrative expenses rose from \u00a36.73m to \u00a36.83m as the business continued investing in its operations.<\/p>\n
Staff numbers increased from an average of 225 to 226, while total employee costs rose from \u00a38.79m to \u00a39.65m.<\/p>\n
The company’s balance sheet remained strong, with net assets increasing from \u00a311.22m to \u00a312.51m.<\/p>\n
Cash at bank and in hand stood at \u00a37.03m at the year end, compared with \u00a36.49m previously.<\/p>\n
The accounts also reveal a change in the group’s ownership structure.<\/p>\n
Chattertons Group Holdings Limited became the controlling party of Chattertons Group Limited on May 29, 2025, with Richard Ludlow becoming the ultimate controlling party on that date.<\/p>\n
Directors said the firm continued to pursue growth through acquisitions and organic expansion, while maintaining its focus on profitability.<\/p>\n
The strategic report states: “Chattertons continues to pursue its growth strategy to become a significant provider of professional services in the East Midlands and beyond through a combination of organic growth, the recruitment of additional or high-calibre professionals and exploring further acquisitions.”<\/p>\n
