Midlands engineering consultancy MEC Consulting Group has reported average annual compound growth of 117% in its civil engineering division over the past three years, driven by new project wins and investment in staff.<\/p>\n
The business, which operates from offices in Leicester, Nottingham and Birmingham, has also made five promotions and recruited three employees as it expands its operations.<\/p>\n
The civil engineering team exceeded its new business target in the last financial year, achieving 191% of its target, alongside a reported productivity rate of 102%.<\/p>\n
Recent contract wins include detailed design work for residential developments comprising more than 750 homes across Mansfield, Newark, Somerby, Tutbury and Tamworth.<\/p>\n
The consultancy has also undertaken structural design work supporting the regeneration of six former factory buildings into Canopy, Leicester’s creative hub and office development.<\/p>\n
Alex Bennett, managing director of MEC Consulting Group, said: “The progress within our Civils team has been very deliberate.<\/p>\n
“Over the past three years, we have invested in the people, leadership and ways of working needed to build a stronger, more connected discipline across the Midlands.<\/p>\n
“With the team achieving a 102% productivity rate and exceeding its new work target in the last financial year, hitting 191%, this approach is certainly proving the right move.”<\/p>\n
The expansion has seen Nathan Bill appointed associate director, making him the youngest employee at MEC to reach that level.<\/p>\n
Jed Nicholson and Nathan Broomfield have been promoted to senior civil engineers, Michael Webb to civil engineer and Jack Wills to assistant civil engineer.<\/p>\n
The consultancy has also recruited civil engineer Richard Abbott, graduate civil engineer Orla Garvey and apprentice Zayd Ul-Hassan, who has started a degree at Nottingham Trent University.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, apprentice Ryan Green has completed his BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Civil Engineering and begun a civil engineering degree at the University of Wolverhampton.<\/p>\n
Bill has also been shortlisted for Rising Star of the Year at the 2026 ProCon Leicestershire Awards.<\/p>\n

Bill said competition for work across residential, commercial and public sector developments remained strong throughout the Midlands.<\/p>\n
He added: “The Midlands market for residential, commercial, and public sector development is very active and therefore highly competitive but I’m confident our investment in people is what’s helping us stand out.”<\/p>\n
Bennett said the business would continue focusing on technical expertise and staff development as it pursues further contracts.<\/p>\n
