Downing Street has announced that Kwasi Kwarteng has been appointed as the new business secretary.
Kwarteng replaces Alok Sharma who has left the role to focus full-time on the presidency of the UN COP26 climate conference in November.
The event, in Glasgow, is thought to be the biggest of its kind the UK has ever hosted.
Sharma said he was “delighted” to have been given the green light to concentrate solely on the new role.
Kwarteng has been an MP for Spelthorpe in Surrey since 2010. Most recently, he was Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Exiting the European Union, following the resignation of Suella Braverman
