Bristol apartment plans scaled back in wake of public consultation

Plans for a new block of flats in the centre of Bristol have been scaled back by developers following a public consultation.

Developers Dandara have submitted a new planning application for several building the highest of which is 15 storeys. The original plans were for a 20 storey building.

The site is close to Temple Meads railway station and overlooks one of the busiest traffic junctions in the city. It was previously occupied by a car salesroom.

In total 432 build to rent homes will be constructed if the scheme goes ahead.

The developers have also included a small park, fewer car parking spaces and a flexible community space.

Dandara is looking to start construction next year and the flats are due to be completed by 2027.

A spokesperson for the developer said: “Lots of local residents shared their feedback with us – which helped us reshape our draft proposals, reducing the maximum height by five storeys, but also bringing more planting into the heart of the scheme, to create an attractive place where new and existing residents

“The existing building line on Temple Gate and Clarence Road would be pulled back, to allow space for improvements to the public realm including widened pavements – 3.5 metres wide on Temple Gate – with space for street tree planting and a segregated cycle lane.”
