Housebuilder seals deal to build 640 new homes in Salisbury

Housebuilder Vistry has agreed a deal to purchase land near Salisbury for a new development.

The deal, with was for an undisclosed sum, will see 640 new homes built on the site.

Vistry, which builds properties under the Bovis and Linden brands, has been interested in buying the land Harnham, to the south west of the city, for more than a decade.

The company already has planning permission for the first phase of the scheme which will see 234 new homes built.

Countryside Partnerships – which  is a part of Vistry – will deliver 87 homes, which will range from two to five bedrooms.

Vistry became one of the largest homebuilders in the country at the end of last year after agreeing a £1.2bn deal to purchase Countryside.

The Countryside Partnerships arm of the business delivers houses for local government and housing associations.

The development in Salisbury will include 256 affordable houses.  It will also include a primary school, local centre, public spaces and infrastructure and landscaping.

West of England regional managing director Emma Colin said: “This is a great acquisition for the business.

“The site was secured by the strategic land team, which held an interest in the land back in 2013.

“The development aims to provide high-quality residential homes and amenities for the local community that are sensitively integrated within the area’s landscape and built character.”

Work on the new development will get under way within a matter of weeks.

Vistry said it will also contribute more than £14.5m towards local education, healthcare, transport strategy and a new doctors’ surgery in the centre of Salisbury.
