Clubs under threat as largest UK operator calls in administrators
Rekom UK, which operates nearly 40 clubs and late night bars across the UK, is to call in administrators three years after a major restructuring.
The group, whose brands include Pryzm and Atik nightclubs, blamed cost of living increases for a fall in demand, especially among students and young people, and rises in energy and supply costs. It also said it would have to find a further £2m in wages with the minimum wage rise due in April.
It filed its notice of intent yesterday.
Group chairman Philip Marks said, “We still have a core of successful club and bar businesses and our Nordic brands, Heidi’s Bier Bar in Birmingham and Cardiff and Proud Mary in Cardiff and Swansea, have outperformed all expectations. But we must go through this restructure to be able to come out stronger for the future.
“For any venues that may not continue as part of Rekom UK, we will do our best to find new owners and save jobs.”
The firm had traded as Deltic Group before going into administration in 2020 as a result of the pandemic. It was bought by Scandinavian club operator Rekom Group A/S, making it Europe’s largest club operator. The Scandinavian part of the business is unaffected.

- Kuda in York
- JJ’s in Coventry
- Heidi’s Beer Bar in Birmingham
- Steinbeck and Shaw in Bristol
- Fiction in Stoke-on-Trent
