Sealey to launch Origin fund

NORTH West investment company Aquarius Equity Partners is today launching a new £7.5m fund, aimed at investors with SIPPs.

The fund differs from others because individuals can invest into portfolio companies directly, or via their Self Invested Personal Pension (SIPP), giving the associated tax benefits.

The Aquarius Origin Fund, which will be launched to leading business people from the North West this evening at the Lowry Hotel in Salford, will make equity investments of up to £750,000 in early stage companies with high growth potential, with a strong focus on those located in the North.

Aquarius is the brainchild of entrepreneur Steve Sealey, who made a fortune from the sale of Merseyside paper maker AM Paper. Alan Murphy, his former boss co-founded Acquarius with him.

Mr Sealey says the Origin Fund is “special and truly different”.

“Venture capital has long been invested by institutional pension funds, never before have private individuals been able to invest equity in unquoted early stage companies through their SIPP.”
