Professional firms’ new media moves

NORTH West professional firms are harnessing the power of the Internet to help them and their clients defy the recession.
Law firm Turner Parkinson has launched tpdeals.co.uk a portal showcasing businesses and properties for sale and also allowing insolvency professionals to list assets they are selling.
The site, created by senior partner Nick Davenport last year, is already hundreds of hits every week and is proving a source of new business and raising the profile of the Manchester firm.
More than 3,000 subscribers receive a weekly email alerts from the firm, while the site is attracting around 700 unique users a month.
Mr Davenport said: “We used to do a paper-based deals round-up but obviously the Internet gives us greater immediacy and geographic coverage.
“Initially we just started listing North West deals, but we now have listings from all over the country. I’m staggered by how much it has grown.”
Meanwhile, Manchester accountants Beever and Struthers has launched www.weatheringthestorm.co.uk, which offers expert advice to help small and medium-sized businesses.
The site also offers HR, VAT/PAYE advice, information on buying, selling or merging a business, fraud prevention and how to source and secure grant funding.
Paul Wilson, a partner at Beever and Struthers, said: “In the current economic climate, SMEs need all the help they can get.
“We hope that this website will offer some reassurance to small businesses that the help they need is out there and that by making small changes and managing their finances correctly they should be able to ‘weather the storm”.
