Abbott’s success on huge new M&S

MANCHESTER town planning consultancy Steven Abbott Associates advised retail giant Marks & Spencer on its public inquiry victory to build a £60m, 150,000sq ft store near Cheshire Oaks, Ellesmere Port.
Communities secretary John Denham gave the green light last month after a six-day public inquiry. Work will begin on-site in the new year.
Steven Abbott Associates (SAA), provided the expert retail evidence on behalf of M&S and Simons Developments.
SAA Partner Jonathan Smith Comments: “The retail case for such a large store outside a defined shopping centre was clearly difficult to compile but I am delighted that both the inspector and Secretary of State accepted my submissions without criticism.
“The development received significant support from the local community and I believe that it will bring real benefits to Ellesmere Port and the wider region.
“The new store will be the second largest M&S in the country, creating approximately 350, permanent full-time jobs.”
:: Meanwhile fashion chain Superdry has revealed plans to open a 2,379 shop at Chesire Oaks. The new store will open early next year.
