Building briefs: Widnes leisure complex works to start; Five take space at Portland Tower
WORK on a new leisure complex in Widnes is due to begin this spring.
Venture Fields, at the gateway to Widnes Waterfront, is expected to open in spring 2011 and will be anchored by Reel Cinemas, with a five screen cinema, an ice rink, bowling alley, along with a hotel and restaurant.
It is being developed by Widnes Regeneration, a joint venture between developer St Modwen and Halton Borough Council.
Richard Bakes, from S. Modwen, said: “Although progress to date has been slow, thanks to the additional funding provided by the council to support the delivery of the scheme, we anticipate that work will now start on site this spring.
“Discussions are ongoing with the council and our existing tenants to ensure that we can achieve this target and we hope to be in a position to announce a full tenant line up in the next couple of weeks.”
