Lufthansa launches new Manchester route

GERMANY’S national carrier Lufthansa is expanding the routes available from Manchester with the introduction of a new service to Stuttgart.

The airline – which bought a majority stake in BMI last summer – will begin the service from Monday, April 12.

The new service will be operated by Lufthansa CityLine using Canadair CR7 aircraft with a flight time of under two hours and fares from as little as £99 return and £59 one-way, including all taxes.

Marianne Sammann, Lufthansa’s general manager for the UK and Ireland, said it will bring benefits for both business and leisure travellers.

She said: “We are delighted to be able to expand our service offering from Manchester, especially in view of the current economic challenges we are all experiencing.

“Stuttgart is the gateway to the German state of Baden Wuerttemberg, one of the world’s most powerful and attractive high-tech regions so ideally matches the new modern industry focus of the Manchester area.

“The region is home to a strong network of key industries – especially information technology, automotive and engineering – with many innovative medium-sized companies, and a good number of global players such as SAP, Daimler Chrysler, Porsche, IBM and Hewlett Packard.

“This new service between Manchester and Stuttgart helps reaffirm our commitment to our customers from across the north of England who take advantage of our Manchester operation.”

Stuttgart also provides the ideal access point for leisure travellers wanting to take romantic breaks in the picturesque Black Forest and Lake Constance areas.

Those looking to explore the cultural side of this stunning city can take in many interesting sights, including two city chateaux, the Staatsgalerie art gallery and the unique Wilhelma – Europe’s biggest combined zoo and botanical gardens.

Baden-Württemberg’s state capital also boasts Mercedes-Benz and Porsche museums as well as popular wine bars, pubs and antique shops in the Bohemian quarter of the old town.
