Cheshire video game firm has been forced into liquidation

Gameseek has attracted controversy

A Cheshire firm which specialises in tracking down console games at low prices for its customers has gone into liquidation leaving hundreds of customers out of pocket.

Winsford firm Gameseek specialised in selling games and consoles – often at lower prices than competitors.

The firm has been criticised in the past for failing to deliver on its promises but the decision to put it into liquidation has provoked an angry response on social media websites.

Hundreds of customers, who have already paid for games, have received a letter from Dow Schofield Watts Business Recovery informing them that the business is no longer trading.

The firm is being placed into voluntary liquidation and Lisa Moxon and Christopher Barrett from Dow Schofield Watts will act as liquidators.

The firm has yet to make an official announcement but the website has been closed down and calls from customers have gone unanswered.

Gameseek boss Stephen Staley has defended the reputation of his company in the past in the face of fierce criticism.

He said in an interview: “I am in a very unique position where I own 100 per cent of the company and can do things other companies cannot. I have no-one to report to. No shareholders. No Investors. Ultimately I am extremely passionate about video games.

“I love my company and I love e-commerce. We could easily sell at higher prices but why not create history?

“We are doing something very generous. I don’t understand. I am trying to make a difference in the world here and do things never been done before.

“Yes it’s innovative and yes we are not perfect, but we are clearly trying, whereas most other retailers are just drifting through life and accepting the norm.

“We want to actually make history and change how customers engage and interact with an online shop. We have so many new features coming it’s extremely exciting to be a part of this.

“This is an exciting new dawn for video gamers.”

The video game industry has been badly affected by changing customer habits and a downturn in spending.
High street firm Game has closed a number of stores and other retailers have been affected.
