£14m housing scheme will help transition from renting to owning a home
A 74-home scheme in Garston village, South Liverpool, is under way as part of a £14m development by South Liverpool Homes (SLH).
The development has received funding from Homes England and will include one- and two-bedroom apartments and six retail units that will be split across three separate buildings.
In a sought-after area close to local amenities, including Liverpool South Parkway railway station, thriving local shops and a large health centre, the new development will see SLH build 39 affordable homes for rent and 35 rent to buy homes, opening doors for local people who want to take their first step on the property ladder.
One of the buildings will also accommodate homes solely for people over 55 years of age, meeting the needs of older people in the area.
The development, aptly named ‘The Old Baths’ as the homes are being built on land that was once the home of the former Garston Public Baths, will be built by Legacie Construction with work expected to be completed over the next two years.

The option of purchasing an apartment under the rent to buy initiative gives local people the opportunity to gradually transition from renting to owning their home, perfect for those who are struggling to save up for a deposit.
“The addition of the retail units will also offer opportunities for small businesses to establish themselves in the heart of Garston.”

The development is part of SLH’s wider plans to build 280 new homes across Speke and Garston by 2027, with plans submitted for 92 homes on South Parade in Speke and 24 homes on Window Lane and Church Road, Garston.
