Rock signs new tenants and centre director

THE Rock Shopping Centre in Bury has signed up a group of new tenants and appointed a new centre director.

Simply Be opened its first outlet at the centre yesterday, while Build-a-Bear Workshop, dutch gyms chain FitforFree and entertainments products retailer B.Com have all taken new space in the centre, which is owned by Hammerson and opened in July last year.

A new centre director, Arnold Wilcox-Wood, has also been appointed.
Wilcox-Wood was born in Bury but has previously launched major shopping centres in Eastern Europe as well as previously running the Manchester Arndale, The Mall in Blackburn and Liverpool’s Clayton Square shopping centre.

He said: “The Rock has started its second year with an incredibly strong commercial and leisure mix and the new signings for quarter four will make The Rock an even more attractive proposition for Christmas. We have a strong campaign of events to drive footfall over the festive season and we’re confident that we’ll smash footfall targets again this year.”

The rock comprises around 620,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space. The development is anchored by Debenhams and Marks & Spencer, while the leisure element includes a 10-screen Vue cinema and an AMF 24-lane bowling complex. Currently, just six of the centre’s units remain vacant.
