Holts invests in 3D technology for sports fans

ONE of Manchester’s most famous breweries has invested in the latest 3D TV technology for sports fans.

Family-owned Joseph Holt is fitting out 20 of its Greater Manchester pubs with special televisions which will broadcast live Premiership games and other sports programmes in three dimension.

The first game to be shown to the public will be the Manchester United v Chelsea game on Easter Saturday.

Staff from the brewery watched a pilot screening of Sky’s 3D service last month and signed up for its pubs which have a strong football following.

Drinkers will wear special glasses to take advantage of the new feature which is being hailed as a leap in the quality of pub based sports viewing.

Future matches, including Manchester City games, will also be screened live and more Holts pubs may be fitted with the system.

Operations manager Mark Norbury said: “We pride ourselves in old fashioned values when its comes to brewing our beer – but we are bang up to date with this latest  technology.

“We already have a big customer base for our soccer screenings and we know this will have huge appeal.

“Holts is one the first breweries in the country to invest in this system and the first televisions to be brought into the country are now being fitted ready for the big Man U game on Easter Saturday.

“The 3D image is a great experience and I’m sure this technology will grow.  We hope to roll it out to other pubs once we have seen the feedback.

“We want our customers to have the best experience possible – and we know sport is very popular in our pubs ”

Sky will position extra cameras at football matches for the 3D service. Revolving glasses on screen indicate when the action is about to start.
