Legal briefs: First for SAS Daniels; Brako’s Shoosmiths role

CHESHIRE law firm SAS Daniels has appointed its first non-solicitor partner.

Helen Gowin has been promoted to partner in the firm’s probate department under the new terms of the Legal Services Act which allows non-solicitor managers and legal executives to become partners.

Helen joined SAS Daniels in 2004 and currently heads up the estate administration team in the probate department.

She said; “I am delighted to be offered this promotion which reflects the firm’s recognition of the role of legal executives in their practice, raising the status of legal executives as important contributors to the management and development of the business.”

NATIONAL law firm Shoosmiths has named partner Harold Brako as head of its Manchester office. Mr Brako, who joined Shoosmiths when it opened in the city in January 2009, takes up his new role with immediate effect.Shoosmiths

He said: “As head of office I must ensure Shoosmiths’ culture and values are maintained within the office; that staff have the necessary support and resources to do their jobs effectively, and to ensure the firm maintains a high profile in the local business community.”

Since opening in Spinningfields the head of office role had been performed by Northampton-based partner Waine Mannix, while at the same time leading Shoosmiths’ Lender Services Group.
