BDP wins work on £455m Chinese developments

BDP, the Manchester-headquartered architecture firm, has won three separate contracts in China, to work on the design and development of projects valued at a combined £455m.
Shanghai Bund Investment has appointed BDP to provide architecture, landscape and lighting design for Shanghai’s new ‘Bund X–Change’, a 9,600 sq m development in the Bund Historical and Cultural Conservation Zone.
The project, valued at £400m, will include retail, food and beverage, commercial offices, a luxury club, a boutique hotel, leisure and car parking.
Meanwhile, Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University, a new international university in Suzhou run as a partnership between the University of Liverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong University, has appointed BDP to masterplan a 200,000 sq m campus development programme and provide architectural design for four of its buildings. The project is valued at £20.1m.
Finally, Jiangsu Artall Cultural Industry Co has appointed the firm to design the masterplan, landscaping and architecture for the 32,000 sq m Artall Tiancheng Business Centre in Nanjing.
The £35.2m project will maximise the public spaces in the centre, linking existing buildings with covered walkways and create a 26 floor tower that will provide offices above an art gallery.
BDP has also been shortlisted to participate in a paid competition to provide urban design for the 17 sq km Qingdao Westcoast Central Business District in Shandong.
