VEKA invests £4m in new mixing plant

WORK has started on a new £4m building at the Burnley head office of PVCu window maker Veka.
The 20,000 sq ft mixing plant is being built by Accrington-based Hambling Construction and should be finished early next year.
German-owned Veka has around 3,000 staff globally. In the UK the business has a turnover of around £80m and employs 400 staff.
Veka’s managing director David Jones said: “The new mixing plant will be fully automated, meaning it will be capable of processing almost double our current capacity in tonnes, which will allow for future growth and expansion.
“The new mixers and coolers are the most technically-advanced available. In the past we have bought in ready-mixed compound powder; however as part of our investment to the UK since last year’s acquisition of Bowater Building Products , we will now mix our own on-site, which will be transferred to the extrusion lines via the silos in the newly-built powder feed system.”
The build is being handled by Burnley-based project manager Francis Bradshaw Partnership.
