New premises for home brew specialist SPL

WIRRAL home brewing specialist SPL International has secured a £1.5m funding package to buy new premises in Ellesmere Port.

The commercial mortgage will enable SPL to consolidate two separate production and storage sites at a 50,000 sq ft space at Poole Hall Industrial Estate.

SPL International supplies ingredients to the alcohol drinks industry and makes products, such as enzymes and alcohol yeasts, which it sells as part of home brewing kits.

Managing director Phil Jones said: “The new factory is the next logical step in helping us ramp up production and benefit from greater cost efficiencies.

“This will give us a strong basis from which to target new export opportunities, which already account for around 70% of our sales and which hold the potential for strong future growth.”

The mortgage was provided by HSBC. Lee McCracken, area commercial director for Cheshire, said: “SPL International is a good example of a company that’s investing in order to grow, allowing it to both improve its cost efficiency whilst looking ahead to maximise prospective growth opportunities.

“We’re looking forward to working with SPL International as the company looks at potential business opportunities both in the UK and internationally in markets including Australia and North America.”
