Masters 2013: Burton eyes ‘next level’ for Goody Good Stuff

MELISSA Burton, the New York-born founder of sweet brand Goody Good Stuff, is hoping to attract external funding to fuel further growth.
The Heysham-based company makes gelatine-free sweets which are now sold in 27 countries.
The business, which has just opened an office at MediacityUK in Salford, picked up the North West Newcomer prize at the North West Business Masters at the Lowry Hotel yesterday afternoon.
Ms Burton, who originally came to the UK to study at Lancaster University, said: “We’re looking at investment to help our business get to the next level, which we’re very excited about.”
She added: “We’ve secured some major accounts in the US. We’ve got 8,000 new stores in 7-Eleven and just secured Tesco nationally [in the UK] with Extra stores as well. Things have been growing really quickly.”
Goody Good Stuff’s range of 10 products contain only natural flavours and colourings as well as being free from gelatine. Ms Burton said the company was now developing a marsh mallow brand.
Runners-up in the category were: Integral Finance, a ‘one-stop shop’ for finance expertise for new and growing technology and life sciences companies in the region, and M-hance, a Stockport-headquartered group which was formed by the acquisition of seven software businesses in November 2011. The award was sponsored by Four Financial Recruitment.
