16 jobs lost at Wigan plastics firm

ADMINISTRATORS have made 16 people redundant at Leaco Ltd, a Wigan company that makes moulded plastic products for florists.
Bill Dawson and Dan Smith, partners at accountancy firm Deloitte in Manchester, were appointed as joint administrators on May 14.
In a statement they said the business ceased to trade immediately but they are hopeful of finding a buyer. The business is owned by Willjo Ltd, which is owned by Beryl Harrison.
Mr Dawson said: “Unfortunately, the principal cause of the company’s failure was the decline of a connected business, leaving Leaco Ltd with an additional debt burden to service.
“Due to a lack of raw materials on site at the time of appointment we were unable to continue trading the business. However, Leaco has a strong network of customers from which we’ve received a number of messages of support, and as such we’re hopeful of securing an offer for the business or assets.”
The connected company referred to by Mr Dawson was ABC Aerials which changed its name to Willjo when assets were sold. It stopped trading two years ago.
