JD Sports sees World Cup uplift

THE build up to the World Cup has enhanced trading performance for North West retailer JD Sports Fashion.
The Bury-based group today said in an interim statement for the 18 weeks to June 7 that although it is pleased with the performance of its Sportswear, giving like-for like figures would therefore be misleading.
Meanwhile, the outdoor business – Blacks and Milletts – is maintaining positive progress against weak prior year comparatives and whilst fashion – comprising brands such as Bank Scotts, Tessuti, Nicholas Deakins and newly acquired Cloggs and Ark – continues to experience a varied performance, there are encouraging signs for the future, it added.
Overall it anticipates that first half profits increase in line with expectations.
