More Chinese growth for Suttons as business booms

CHEMICALS transport specialist Suttons Group is planning further expansion in China to meet booming demand.

The Widnes-based company, which already has 50 people working in four locations across China is looking at opening further offices, North Asia general manager William Leigh-Pemberton said.

The executive, pictured, who has lived in Shanghai since 1993 and launched thewilliamleighpemberton Chinese branch for Suttons in 1997, is also responsible for the company’s operations in Korea and Taiwan.

He told TheBusinessDesk.com that business in China is “exceedingly strong.”
“Our biggest challenge is to keep pace with the growth that is happening here. Investment in the chemicals industry is just pouring into China. There is strong demand for movement of chemicals within China and also from exports.”

He said locations like Shanghai were ideal for international chemicals manufacturers as large industrial parks had been created, with plenty of land and a hard-working and plentiful workforce.

“For this reason China will continue to occupy a dominant place in the world in terms of chemical supply. In line with this we’re continuing to grow our operation, we see onward growth all the time and we’re going to open more offices throughout China.”

Mr Leigh-Pemberton said the Chinese economic success story was being driven by a corporate and individual energy and hard work.
