The Protein Works targets Europe after funding boost

THE Protein Works, the online sports nutrition brand, has beefed-up its finances with a funding deal to help it launch four new websites in Europe.

The ambitious Runcorn-based company has been awarded a six -igure sum from Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership’s  Business Growth Grant, which is supported by the Regional Growth Fund.

Karl Jacobie, founder of The Protein Works said “This grant will allow us to bring forward our European expansion plans and to build on the success the business has already experienced in the UK.

“It will enable us to vastly increase our operational capacity and we will be able to recruit a further 15 staff from within the region. The grant would not have been possible without the guidance and assistance of Halton Borough Council, who have been in our corner every step of the way.”

“The award caps off a tremendous few months for us which has seen us nominated as new business of the year, in the National Business Awards and also our move into our new 40,000sq ft headquarters facility in Runcorn.”

Cllr Eddie Jones, the council’s service lead for business development added: “The Protein Works is a great example of a business maximising the opportunities presented by today’s changing business landscape. Trading as they do through social media and online sales, this business, through hard work and innovation, has captured a rapidly growing customer base for its products. By adding our support we can help make sure The Protein Works continues to grow, extending its market reach across Europe whilst employing more people in Halton.”

Mark Basnett, executive director, Liverpool City Region LEP said: “The Business Growth Grant Programme was designed to help local businesses grow and create jobs and I am delighted we have been able to support The Protein Works in Halton with their European expansion plans. The £15m programme will provide a huge boost to city region’s economy by helping local businesses realise their growth ambitions and through them create 2,000 new jobs for local people.”
