MAG exec Cowan takes on Business in the Community role

ANDREW Cowan, chief operating officer at Manchester Airports Group, has become chair of the charity Business in the Community’s North West regional advisory board.

Mr Cowan joined the company, which owns Manchester, Stansted, East Midlands and Bournemouth airports in 2013.

Raksha Pattni, area director for BITC, said: “Andrew brings a wealth of business experience to the board. Manchester Airports Group is one of the region’s best when it comes to corporate social responsibility and we are delighted that he is joining us to drive our agenda in the region.”

BITC works with businesses and organisations to secure a fairer society and a more sustainable future. In the North West its priorities are stimulating local economies, creating jobs, reducing unemployment, addressing skill shortages and helping businesses create healthier, happier and more productive employees.

Its regional advisory board provides strategic guidance and support to BITC to tackle these issues and includes senior executives from Eversheds, Accenture, BT, KPMG, Warburtons, United Utilities, Enterprise Rent a Car, Lex Autolease, BBC, Booths, DWF, Siemens and The Monastery. Mr Cowan  takes over the role from Edwin Booth who has been chair since 2005.

Mr Cowan said: “BITC makes a real difference to local communities, working with businesses to tackle issues that impact individuals and the wider community of which we are all a part.
 
“I firmly believe the prosperity of business and society are tied together. One cannot succeed without the other and MAG is committed to helping the UK prosper by contributing positively to the communities it serves. In my role as Chair, I will continue to actively champion BITC’s profile across the North West to build even stronger links between businesses and this excellent organisation.”
