In brief: Deal is dead cert for B&S ; KPMG expands

ACCOUNTANT and business adviser Beever and Struthers is saddled up to provide audit and corporation tax services to Great Leighs Estates, owner of the UK’s newest racecourse.
After staging its first race meeting in January 2015, Chelmsford City Racecourse in Essex has a confirmed programme of 58 fixtures on its all- weather track and a growing programme of supporting events including a concert on 3rd June by 1980s pop stars Madness, a Ladies Day in the same month and summer family fun days.
The course is operated by Great Leighs Estates, a partnership between Tote Media – a Fred Done family company – and Bet Solutions International.
Beever and Struthers has a longstanding relationship with Mr Done, having provided a full range of accountancy services to Done family businesses for more than 30 years.
Audit director at Manchester-based Beever and Struthers, Richard Williams, said: “There’s no better confirmation that we are doing the right thing than when existing client connections come to us with additional opportunities. This new venture is terrifically exciting and we are delighted to be involved with it from the start.
“This latest appointment is indicative of an increasingly strong start to 2015 in which we anticipate achieving double digit growth after a record breaking 2014 when we won more new clients that at any time in the firm’s 116-year history.”
Philip Siers, managing director of Great Leighs Estates and TML, said: “We are delighted to have a long standing company like Beever and Struthers on board with us at Chelmsford City, and the confidence this brings to the board of directors.”

KPMG says it is expanding and enhancing the range of business consultancy services it provides in the North with acquisition of London-based Boxwood.
Boxwood works with ambitious chief executives and their companies across the UK to deliver complex transformation programmes which drive profitable growth.
KPMG’s Northern Management Consulting practice says the acquisition builds on its middle market consulting offering following last month’s announcement that it had launched a Northern Enterprise Consulting team to help privately-owned clients drive performance and growth.
KPMG’s head of management consulting in the north, David Muir, said: “This is a significant deal for KPMG as we seek to expand and enhance the range of consultancy services we provide in the North, from the largest corporates across the patch to the middle-market and medium sized companies that dominate our regional economy.
“Boxwood’s straightforward and hands-on approach to projects ensures that it consistently drives growth, improves profitability and unlocks value for its clients.
“Additionally, its track-record in providing post-deal transformation advice, particularly to private equity firms and their portfolio companies, complements our existing offering.”
The new arm, which will operate initially under the KPMG Boxwood brand, will be led by Chris Wakerley. All Boxwood staff will transfer to KPMG’s offices, with Chris Wakerley and Matt Clark becoming partners of the firm.
