International software firm moving into Sci-Tech Daresbury

TESSELLA, the international analytics, software and consulting services company, is to open a new base at Sci-Tech Daresbury in Cheshire, one of Europe’s major science and business locations.
The move by the firm, which has offices in the US, The Netherlands and the UK, will see it extend its relationship with the UK’s Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), one of the three Sci-Tech joint venture partners.
The tenancy at the Innovation Centre at Sci-Tech will help Tessella support future projects at STFC’s Daresbury Laboratory, as well as develop relationships with other organisations at the rapidly growing campus.
Tessella collaborates on projects at the cutting edge of innovation, including increasing productivity in the development of new medicines; designing satellites to observe and understand the universe; harnessing fusion power to provide unlimited, clean energy; and minimising risk for workers in harsh and dangerous conditions.
STFC has a long-standing and fruitful relationship with Tessella which includes work at STFC’s Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire such as a seven-year partnership between STFC’s ISIS Neutron Source and Tessella in the development of Mantid, a powerful data reduction and analysis application.
There is also an ongoing agreement to provide a new software environment for instrument control to better support the future needs of the ISIS facility, which provides professional software development and project management expertise to manage the transition from an existing commercial platform to one using an Open Source environment.
More recently, Tessella’s relationship with STFC has extended to its Daresbury Laboratory site in Cheshire. Tessella has provided consultancy support as STFC’s Daresbury Laboratory moves towards a standard reference architecture for their EPICS Control System platforms together with driving improvements to their software development life-cycle processes.
Tessella chief executive Alan Gaby said: “We have a great team working in Warrington that is valued by our clients and I’m absolutely confident that the tenancy at Sci-Tech Daresbury’s Innovation Centre will help us deepen our engagement with STFC in Daresbury and the wider Daresbury community and provide an engine for future growth.”
Sci-Tech Daresbury is a private-public joint-venture partnership between developer Langtree, the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and Halton Borough Council. The site, which has Enterprise Zone status, is home to businesses and globally significant science facilities.
John Downes, chief cxecutive of Langtree and director of the Sci-Tech Daresbury joint venture company, said: “Tessella is a globally renowned business operating at the very forefront of innovation and working on projects of international significance.
“Their team will bring new capabilities and expertise to the campus, opening the way for further collaboration across a number of important areas. We’re delighted to have them on board because Tessella is such a strategically important new tenant for the site.”
