Gunnercooke hits 100 partner milestone

LAW firm gunnercooke has reached its 100th partner milestone with the appointment of banking specialist Jill Parker in its Manchester office.
Parker joins from Addleshaw Goddard, where she worked as managing associate. Specialising in real estate and development finance, Jill has acted for banks, insurance companies, other financial institutions and large corporates both in the UK and overseas.
The firm, which operates a fixed fee-model and encourages flexibility and home-working, sees itself as a challenger to traditional firms.
As well as its base on King Street in Manchester, it has two sites in London – where it sees strong growth potential, recently-appointed chief executive Anna Beaumont said.
She told TheBusinessDesk.com: “We see ourselves as trusted advisers to our clients. We operate at a high level as we only recruit lawyers with 10 year’s experience. We are working really hard to create a culture within the business based around sharing ideas and processes and best practice.
“We see internal culture as very important as we don’t want people working in silos. However we are flexible so we don’t dictate times around meetings, but instead hold listening projects.”
The firm has also recently taken on employment partners Marlene Hession and Melloney Guiver and Karen Wilson, a real estate partner.
Founding partner Darryl Cooke said: “gunnercooke was established as a challenge to the traditional law firm, and part of this was creating the best environment for lawyers. Reaching 100 partners in just five years is a fantastic achievement, and is testament to our success in striking the optimum work-life balance, and implementing a structure that allows our lawyers to work to the best of their ability.”
Recent deals for the firm include advising online knitwear retailer Wool Overs on its sale to private equity firm Langholm Capital, as well as advising Busy Bees Nurseries on its acquisition of Kinder Nurseries.
