UKFast on track for £40m turnover

MANCHESTER-based technology company UKFast has said it is on course to hit a record-breaking £40m turnover in its current financial year, with five months still to go.
It will be the firm’s 17th consecutive year of growth, after hitting a turnover of £34.3m in 2015, up £5.1m on 2014, and an operating profit of £11.3m, an 18% increase on 2014.
The prediction comes as the company says it has also seen a four-fold spike in job applications for the first half of the year, which it says underlines the national trend for job growth across the tech sector.
Lawrence Jones, chief executive of UKFast, said: “The fact that we keep on growing and strengthening our position every year gives people the confidence to come and work for us. It’s certainly keeping our team of internal recruiters very busy.”
The firm received 5,626 applicants for roles in the first half of 2016 – a 306% increase on the same period last year, during which the firm received interest from 1,384 candidates.
Jones expects the demand for roles in tech and digital to keep growing.
He said: “Brexit or no Brexit, people want to work in tech and for exciting tech businesses. It’s the fastest growing and most exciting industry in the world and Britain is one of the leading players.
“The best and brightest want to come into our industry and that can only be a good thing, but at the same time more people are realising that a career in tech can be accessible to anyone with the right attitude and a willingness to learn.”
Jones has his sights set on boosting overall staff numbers to 350 this year, having grown headcount from 200 in early 2015 to 300.
