Amazing art on show at pop up exhibition

LIVERPOOL businesswoman Jean Gadsby will be showcasing her iconic art collection at a pop up exhibition on today (November 11) at Exchange Station in the city centre.

Called One Woman’s Liverpool, the exhibition will feature a collection of 65 pieces of original art, including a John Lennon painting by Sam Walsh, who also created one of Paul McCartney, which today sits in the National Portrait Gallery.

The collection also features a painting of Hilary Clinton at the French Senate by Don McKinley, and The Crouching Man by Sam Walsh, which will be in situ in the atrium of Exchange Station from the beginning of November.

Other notable artists include Paul Cousins, Sam Walsh, Adrian Henri all of whom have a strong link to the city.

The event will take place from 5pm to 7pm and refreshments will be provided by Liverpool Craft Brewery. The artwork will remain on view at Exchange Station until Monday (November 14).

Gadsby, who is chief organiser of the Merseyside Woman of the Year awards, said: “This collection is a true homage to the city of Liverpool and I can’t think of a better location in which to show these paintings than Exchange Station, which is itself a true piece of Liverpool culture and heritage.
 
“My husband and I have amassed these pieces of art over the last two decades, having known many of the artists.

“As we’ve now downsized, we have simply run out of space and so, while it’s sad to see them go, we want people to buy and experience the same pleasure that we have had. Prices start from just £30 so there is something for everyone.”

Antonia Martin-Wright, head of investment North at CEG, said: “Exchange Station, and the stunning atrium in particular, lends itself to a variety of uses and will show the artwork in the best possible setting.

“As our occupancy rate has now risen to over nearly two thirds, the scheme is quickly becoming a vibrant hub for businesses and events and as more tenants take space, this will only further position the scheme as one of the city’s main commercial destinations.”
