easyJet reveals NW expansion

LOW cost airline easyJet today announced expansion of its North West operations, with six new European flights.

It is launching flights from Manchester to Corfu, Athens and Bastia in Corsica and from Liverpool John Lennon Airport to Dubrovnik in Croatia, Naples and Bordeaux.

All the new routes will begin in the summer.

Andrew Harrison, easyJet’s chief executive, said: “We are proud to keep growing in Liverpool and Manchester, where we will base additional aircraft that will boost the local economy, create much needed jobs and give even more destinations at our famously low fares.”

The extra flights will see additional aircraft based at Liverpool and Manchester. The airline currently has eight aircraft serving more than 20 destinations at Liverpool and three serving eight locations at Manchester.

Neil Pakey, deputy chief executive of Peel Airports, owner of Liverpool John Lennon, commented, “This is a great way to start the New Year. Further expansion of easyJet services at Liverpool is a sign of their continued commitment to low cost air travel both here on Merseyside and across the North West.

“It’s a tremendous vote of confidence for the airport and its future potential at what is for many in the industry proving to be an extremely difficult economic climate to operate in.”
