£1.6m price tag for Marston’s Arena

THE home of Northwich Victoria Football Club is up for sale for £1.6m.
Marston’s Arena is being sold by joint administrators Daniel Butters and Bill Dawson of Deloitte, after its Altrincham-based owner, and the Vic’s landlord, Beaconet Limited went into administration at the end of October.
The football club has signed a 25-year lease with Beaconet, and is understood to be named as a successor tenant, so whoever buys the stadium should honour the agreement. But Vics’ owner Jim Rushe has himself been trying to raise the funds to buy the club’s home through a consortium.
The 9.2 acre site includes the 5,000 capacity stadium and is being marketed as a fully functioning football ground, with restaurant and bar areas and six executive boxes for entertaining corporate clients or to executive meeting rooms.
However, agent GVA Grimley said there are also additional development opportunities on site. Two planning consents are in place for the construction of two all-weather pitches and two-storey changing accommodation for these additional pitches.
Steven Tasker, associate director at GVA Grimley said he was extremely optimistic about the level of interest in the freehold site.
He said: “Marston’s Arena is an excellent state-of-the-art facility and would be the ideal location for a university or sports club seeking news facilities, or for an existing football club looking for a new stadium or training ground.
“It features all of the necessary requirements for a modern club, as well as the capacity to extend. Offers are currently being sought for the freehold interest of the stadium and we are.”
