Legal briefs: Pannone’s wind energy deal; RJ&W’s birthday and more…

LAW firm Pannone advised Welsh company wind energy developer Windpower (Wales) Group on a share issue to raise £850,000 for the development of a wind farm in Conwy, north Wales.

Corporate Partner Simon Wallwork and solicitor Philippa Garden from the Manchester firm advised on the deal. Mr Wallwork said: “We are delighted to have advised Windpower. The renewable energy sector is vitally important and Pannone has a growing portfolio of clients in it.”

RUSSELL Jones & Walker is celebrating the 20th birthday of its Manchester office this month. In that time the team has grown from six to 105.

The office – now based in St. James’ House, Charlotte Street – initially handled personal injury and crime cases but now also manages cases across departments including employment, wills and probate, business and regulatory investigations and employment.

Partner, Nick Holroyd said: “During my 20 years at the Manchester office, there have been many changes, both at the company and across the legal profession. The office has dealt with a massive 44,654 cases across the two decades.  The office has grown significantly and is now a thriving centre for the provision of legal services to a wide range of our clients incorporating all our major services, Claims Direct and the firms Legal Helpline and Contact Centre.

THE corporate department at Manchester law firm JMW completed more than 50 company restorations in a three month period in order to reach a March 31 deadline for VAT Demonstrator reclaims for motor traders.

JMW’s corporate team, led by partner Scott Sands, worked in-conjunction with Stockport based motor trade accountants Trevor Jones and Manchester based VAT specialist Barnard Atkins, to restore companies that have been dissolved in order so that they can make claims to recover VAT over-payments plus interest, dating as far back to 1973.
