Evolve checks in with Savoy savings

MANCHESTER energy consultant Evolve Energy says its advice will help London’s Savoy Hotel reduce its annual carbon footprint by 3,000 tonnes.

The business, which also has offices in London and Preston designed and installed energy management systems and other measures that will reduce the Savoy’s consumption by 40%.

The improvements have been introduced as part of a £250m refurbishment at the hotel.

Evolve’s engineers have installed smart meters and 24-hour energy consumption monitoring equipment as well as using excess heat from kitchen appliances, such as refrigeration units, to reheat hot water.

Managing director Neil Fright said: “Energy prices are set increase by a quarter over the next decade and so large commercial users such as hotels need to act now to offset the risk.

“At just 288 rooms the Savoy is by no means the largest of London’s hotels, but the capacity for energy savings in its refurbishment were huge.”
