Liverpool Uni gets £3.5m to work with industry

THE University of Liverpool has been awarded £3.5m to improve the transfer of knowledge between academic researchers and industry.
The funding, given to just 12 universities across the country from the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council, will be used to create a Knowledge Exploitation Laboratory.
Its aim will be to accelerate the transfer of university research and expertise from the university’s science and engineering departments to industry. The laboratory will be open to industrial collaboration from the autumn.
The money will also be used to provide funding for Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, to further staff training on working with businesses.
Professor Jon Saunders, deputy vice chancellor at the university, said: “The Knowledge Exploitation Laboratory will combine a variety of technologies and bring together technology users, academics and technology suppliers to accelerate knowledge exchange with industry.”
