Green light for £7m green energy plant

PLANNING permission has been granted for a £7m green fuel electricity plant in the North West.

Salford Council last week approved the plan for a the 2.63MW Biomass plant, which is a joint venture between Salford Skip Hire and Yorkshire-based Bioflame.

The plant will process 30,000 tonnes of waste wood a year, when it comes on stream in around 18 months time. Previously the wood would have been sent to landfill.

Alex Thornton, business development manager of Pickering-based Biomass said: “This is a 50-50 joint venture between ourselves, the technology provider, and Salford Skip Hire.

We are always looking for suitable partners and Salford Skip Hire is ideal as it has the site and the capacity in terms of the waste wood.

“The wood will come from across Greater Manchester, from construction sites or domestic skips and will divert products such as MDF, kitchen worktops and so on from landfill.”

Salford Skip Hire is led by World Record press-up champion Tony Cauchi. Construction work on the new project at Laundry Street will begin in a few weeks.
