ENER-G enters residential market

LOW carbon technology company ENER-G has bought a small business which promotes energy effeciency in luxury residential homes.

The £130m turnover Salford-based group did not disclose financial terms of the deal to buy the assets of Sussex-based SmartHome Controls.

SHC designs, manufactures, installs and maintains intelligent heating, ventilation, air conditioning and lighting control systems to promote energy efficiency in high-end residential properties.

The business will form part of the ENER-G Controls business, which is already a market leader in the commercial building energy controls sector.  This acquisition gives ENER-G a foothold in the residential controls market.

Gary Dowsett, director of business development and marketing at ENER-G Controls, will manage the enlarged business, supported by David Fryer, former owner of SHC, who will help to transfer operations and key staff from Uckfield, Sussex, to ENER-G Control’s southern office in Horsham, also in Sussex.

Dr Cedric Rodrigues, managing director of ENER-G’s energy management division said: “SHC has a strong customer and installer base, which is important for us to develop the considerable growth opportunities in the fast-expanding residential energy controls sector.

“We will be expanding our activity in both the new-build market as well as the retro-fit and upgrade sector.

“The solutions delivered by SHC to the high-end residential market are directly comparable with our commercial solutions, especially in sectors such as hotels and leisure. I am confident that this acquisition will add significant value to our business.”
